tools of the trade…
It wasn’t long ago that a respected builder was using tools just like this in his day-to-day work. That has been left to the individual trades and craftsmen now and builders tools are a lot different than they used to be.
I worked in the field when I was younger, and I felt like I was productive on the job site. Now I understand there’s a big difference between busy and productive.
Now, my tools consist of computers, a smartphone, licensing, insurance, and never-ending amount of training courses and scheduling software.
Whether I like it or not I can accomplish more behind a computer screen in one day than I can on a job site in a month. That’s the job! Being smarter. Seeing the bigger picture while being able to track the tiniest details. Being efficient.
It’s a new world out there and if you’re not working hard every day staying up to date with the best new practices it’s not going to end well. Luckily, I have a curious mind. It’s not hard for me to learn new technologies. New ways of doing things. It’s something I embrace.
So if you ever have any thoughts on how we accomplish the job or why we do what we do during the build process, please share them with us. We always welcome the exchange and if we can do something better, we happily will.
