What’s old is new again…
For the first time since I can remember people are opting for old over new. I could be talking about the fact that the most common trend in remodeling is Mid Century Modern, but what I’m really talking about is valuing older, worn in things more than shiny new things.
At first it was the recession of 2008 after the housing bubble burst. That left a sour taste in a lot of mouths. A lot of those pretty McMansions that everyone coveted were now foreclosures ruining the property values of the neighbors.
Then there was the pandemic. Everyone forced to stay at home, needing more usable space than ever before.
And recently, it’s been the ever rising interest rates and lack of houses on the market that is forcing everyone to look inward. Choosing to stay put rather than move.
But I’ve noticed something else as well. People were once waiting for everything to go back to “normal.” Now people are starting to focus on what they still have vs. what was lost. The desire to make what’s already goo, really great.
There’s nothing wrong with making the best out of what we have. I know I’m dating myself, but when I was growing up that was the ”normal.”
I hope we keep going down this road. Opting to maintain and cherish what we already have instead of always wanting something new.
I think that’s how I ended up in this particular niche of the market.
